♬Chicano G-FunK from Italy, France & Chile Collabo♬Now Thatz International Real Game♬++LA/CPT♥

   I will post some fresh & different hip hop/underground music genre tracks in my next blog(s), but for now here's this rola(song) that was the1 one that made me aware our urban culture & style (Chicano/Mexican-American/Central-American/Brown "swag" or style, originating from the Pachucos & Zoot-Suiters c.1920s--the birth of the concept of the "Cholo"/gangster--in an analytical & purely music cultural context) is not just local to where most of us reside as the dominant demographic (the US Southwest/Westcoast or AKA Aztlan/Aztatlan in Nahuatl [Aztec language]).

   Likewise, the case is similar to thoughts I had simmer when i recall watching 2Pac documentaries and laughing (or thinking it was plain silly) White boys in Germany and Europe claiming "Thug Life" and dressing/emulating African-descent hip hop musicians from the U.S. Back then, and even farther back when I use to like purely heavy metal music and punk rock, I--like most people who "dislike" hip-hop always thought "Rap" and "Hip-Hop" was a "Black Thing". That's really far from the truth. Chicanos and brown folk in general have contributed alot to what is now known as American urban street culture. Zoot-Suiters was a East Coast & West Coast thing during the '20s thru 1940s, but it was Chicanos (Mexican-Americans) who put the style on the map--we were the 1st to wear big pants, creasing up (just like Westcoast rappers like Snoop & DPG wear lokez, creased khakiz, dickies and how Eazy-E use to wear Pendletons) and without a doubt, when it comes to Lowrider and custom cars ("ranflas") and car club culture--Chicanos were the ones to put it on the map too.

   Words rappers like Snoop Dogg use like LOKE, Homie have etymologies/derivations from Calo (US Southwest Chicano slang) words like LOCOTE and HOLMES. I just say this--& while I focus on much more important things in life--I just see no credit is given to us as a people & there exists a conceit among the changing Black-&-Brown relations, in which many think Our style is Fake, and just like i've heard people say "they are copying our swag"--to that i respond: Music is an ARTFORM, and it will always be a MULTICULTURAL artform. As we educate ourselvees about our own respective cultures, it would really help both of our cultural groups if we got on the same page and began collabin' more. We put this style on the map and we are doing it together. I grew up and live in Compton. Demographics here have been changing since the last half of the century.

   I've done my research of my area or "hood"---in the 1950's Compton was almost a strictly WHITE community, and over the years following more African-Americans populated the neighborhoods. "White Flight" took place--and so did some "Uncle Tom Flight"---Whites moved to other areas of L.A. and wealthier African-Americans moved to areas like Carson and Norwalk. Compton became what Eurocentrics and people of my generation call "a Ghetto." Now things have continued to change, and the reality is more than 50% of the population in the L.A.-Compton area is of Native/Brown descent (Chicano, Mexican, Central American,--and yeah I've known some Tongvas [tribal people] who blended in with our demographic). Riots always took place when I attended High School--always jump started by some gang (Black vs. Brown sets, AKA Bloods/Pirus Vs. T-Flats/Florencias). At that time, as a HS Senior (before my undergrad @UCR), as I was organizing a leadership (college nfo) workshop, the principal met up with me one morning (he's long gone now, but he had a PhD. and a poster that said "500 Years of Chicano history"--which I thought was G'd up) & his assistant told me that If I was going to be outreaching to alot of students I needed to know the stats--he told me that around 48% of the students were Brown ("Latino/Hispanic"). That was back in '04, so the whole area and neighborhood has changed more towards that direction.

   The situation seems to have calmed down from the reports i keep track of, but it seems with how the economy is nowadays and some aspects of the disintegration of our lifestyles, Black & Brown relations are not positive. On KPFK, a while back I heard a group of "Latinos" (I dislike that term, as it is not Native-centric) were filing a lawsuit with the Compton City Council: the reason being---100% of the City Council was African-American/Black in representation, which to be honest seems rather shady--as more than half of the city's population is brown folk. So tensions and new "politricks" have been put on the map. I will continue to peep game, relate with my beautiful redbone and black sister souljahs no matter what people think. iRep brown pride~&~my native culture 4Life, I feel no need to distance myself from diversity. So in closing here's a REAL example of multiculturalism, urban street culture, and music as an artform on the International Level. > Game Out. - MG [It's 11AM on a Thursday and I last woke up around 12PM the Wednesday Before so I'ma Sleep....ZZZZzzzzZZZ...Bump Bump That GFunk].
